Ashley Dean is currently the Communications & Program Manager for Stanford University’s Program on Food Security and the Environment.  She has worked in the environmental management and communications field for close to ten years, primarily in the academic and non-profit sector. She has additional professional experience in expedition management and media relations, and was the Executive Director for an environmental and outdoor education, after-school program in San Francisco.


Ashley holds a master of Environmental Science and Management with a focus in Eco-Entrepreneurship from the Donald Bren School of Environmental Science and Management, University of California, Santa Barbara, and a bachelor of arts in Human Biology from Stanford University. After a transformative trip to the Ecuadorian Amazon, she spent her senior year at Stanford conducting research on the role of ecotourism as both a model of sustainable development and as an educational tool for environmental and social change. Over ten years later, she is still actively engaged in this field. She hopes to continually merge her interests in international travel and recreation with her professional pursuits, and to always keep the coast or the mountains in her backyard.

Kristian Beadle is currently a Rotary Ambassadorial Scholar in southern Mexico, where he is researching sustainable tourism and climate change. He just completed a research trip from California to Oaxaca called "Voyage of Kiri", which was covered in the magazine Miller McCune. Kristian is now writing a book about ecological design and climate adaptation in collaboration with Universidad del Mar, Huatulco, in the coast of Oaxaca.


Kristian has experience in tourism in several countries, with a focus in Brazil, Mexico, and the United States. He has worked in the fields of green development, public relations, and environmental education. He grew up in Brazil and Australia, and can speak several languages, including Portuguese, Spanish, French, and Chinese. He received a bachelor degree in Global Studies and a masters degree in Environmental Science and Management from the University of California, Santa Barbara. In his personal time, he likes to sail to the Channel Islands aboard his trimaran.

Gia Brazil is an associate at T.C. Hoffman & Associates developing sustainable solutions to complex, multi-faceted, white water to blue water issues. She has over ten years experience in environmental program design, implementation, outreach and education on sustainability, waste prevention and reduction, energy efficiency and regulatory related projects.


She holds a masters degree in Environmental Science and Management from the University of California, Santa Barbara, specializing in Coastal Marine Resources and Corporate Environmental Management, and a bachelor of arts degree in Biology and Environmental Studies from the University of California, Santa Cruz.  She is well-traveled, speaks Spanish, and is an alumni of the Woodhull Institute of Ethical Leadership.  Gia is also an experienced studio and lead vocalist.  She is a California native currently living in San Francisco, where she continues to pursue her passion for enhancing the quality of life for all while reducing our impact on the environment.

Paul Spraycar is a program analyst in Western Conservation at the David and Lucille Packard Foundation. He specializes in environmental strategy and corporate environmental management, carbon project development and policy, greenhouse gas management, conservation planning, and financial modeling. Paul has helped corporations, government agencies, and non-profit organizations to manage and report their environmental impacts. He is also involved in communications and integrated media with a blog on Measuring Good and Beyond Climate Change.


Paul earned a masters in Environmental Science and Management at the Bren School of the Environment at UC Santa Barbara, with a focus on private sector involvement in conservation. He also holds a MBA from the Kellogg School of Management, where he focused on market-based strategies for improving corporate environmental performance, and a bachelor’s degree in Applied Math and Economics from Northwestern University. Prior to Paul’s corporate experience, he led a series of summer-long mountaineering expeditions in the Sierra. His current outdoor pursuits include cycling, trail running, and a fledgling surfing career.

Lucas Johnson holds a Master of Environmental Science and Management with a focus in Eco-Entrepreneurship from the Donald Bren School of the University of California, Santa Barbara (UCSB).  His primary expertise and experience is in green building and sustainable energy systems.  He currently works as the Project Coordinator for the Building Performance Specialists division of Allen Associates (www.dennisallenassociates.com) in Santa Barbara, CA. 


His past experience includes various entrepreneurial activities such as co-founding and serving as the first President of the Santa Barbara Emerging Green Builders.  Since then he has continued his involvement with the United States Green Building Council as the Secretary of the Board and the Chair of Sponsorship for the California Central Coast Chapter.  Lucas has also pursued business development beyond the context of academia by founding the non-profit BeyondFire Institute (www.beyondfireinstitute.org) and the for-profits Clean Tech Commercialization (www.beyondfirectc.com) and Sun (re)construction (www.sunreconstruction.com).  His entrepreneurial passion is focused on making zero-net energy building cost-effective.  To further ground his passion, he has worked as an independent consultant for various venture capital firms, successful start-ups, and consulting groups such as Low Carbon Accelerator, Accenture, Genentech, and Mezzetti and Associates. Lucas is also keeps himself busy with writing, triathlons, and outdoor adventures.
